ACT an attachment
Hi,
I have worked with the issue of attachment for a number of years, although I have not conducted any formal research: I firmly believe attachment has a major effects, both positive and negative, on the all six areas for the Hexaflex. I work with children in schools and with other clients in a private practice. The children, and some adults I see who have a history of poor attachment generally have a poor sense of self; are dominated by their conceptualized past; are inflexible, cognitively fused, use experiential avoidance, tend to be fairly impulsive and experience major problems with recognizing and/or deciding/committing to their values. ACT is an excellent vehicle for working with clients who present with attachment problems, bearing in mind the ages of the clients. At present I am designing an ACT program that targets Prep-age children because I believe the Hexaflex can be adapted for this age group. I hope this is useful, and good luck with your training and let me know if there is anything I can help you with regarding my experiences with attachment issues.
Kindest regards
Terry
ACT and attachment
Hi,
There should be two PowerPoints on this site from the ANZ'08 and ANZ'09 ACT conferences where I presented on using ACT with mothers and babies to promote secure attachment. If you can't find them let me know and I'll email them to you!
Cheers
Emma
