ACT tutorial

this is just a thought. Ive taken the RFT tutorial a couple of times now and throughly enjoyed it. It really helped my understanding of RFT at an introductory level and has helped me understand the book a bit more.
It got me thinking that a similar introduction to ACT tutorial might also be of benefit. This might aid learing about the model in the early stages. Im not sure how it would be done but it could serve as a good way of getting people into an ACT way of thinking. The RFT tutorial was a great help and maybe having something similar for ACT could have sped up my learning in that area too. just a thought.

ACT tutorial...some day?
I'm glad you found the RFT tutorial useful. I actually get this request for a similar tutorial on ACT quite a bit. I would be interested in collaborating with some folks on this project, but could not do it myself.
One challenge of developing an ACT tutorial would be determining the purpose, nature, and target audience of the tutorial. For example, would it be designed for helping therapists do ACT? Or for helping therapists/researchers understand the conceptual/theoretical basis of ACT? Or helping folks understand the terminology of ACT? Or for helping anyone understanding the connection between RFT and ACT? Or for helping the general public/clients use ACT to improve their own lives? Or some combination of all of the above? Before investing too much time and energy in such a project, I would like to see some sort of needs assessment conducted within our community to determine what sort of tutorial would be most useful for folks.
This is also the sort of project for which we would probably want to seek funding. We would also probably want to consult with the ACT trainers and others who have or are developing ACT training materials to coordinate our efforts, avoid needles duplication, etc.
Maybe this is something for which a roundtable discussion or something at the next [[ACT - RFT World Conference II|world conference]] would be useful...
I'd be interested
I'm interested in this. I've been playing around with this idea for a while now, have some ideas, have even written a grant on one computer based training method (with Joseph Parsons and Steve Hayes) for ACT that was unfunded and awaits resubmission. So, I'd be interested in moving forward on this idea if we could get a team together. I could probably devote a good amount of time late this year. Any thoughts about sources of grant funding? I'd be interested in a roundtable discussion at the WorldCon also.
