Abstract:

Based on scientific evidences about more common psychological disorders produced after a sexual assault, a reconceptualization of them as forms of 'experiential avoidance' is proposed. More used intervention techniques applied in the field of victimology are analyzed. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is proposed as an alternative treatment, which is presented in its fundamental aspects. Finally, possible contributions of the therapy to victimology are considered.
