UPCOMING NYC-ACBS EVENTS:

Acceptance and Commitment in Psychotherapy: A Mindful Approach to Rapid Clinical Change (a two day workshop in NY w/ Steve Hayes):

Please join the NYC-ACBS community for this upcoming workshop with ACT founder, Steven C. Hayes.

Below is Dr. Hayes' description of the workshop from the ACBS calendar:

"This is a two day workshop I've developed that is explicitly designed to be useful both to beginners and to intermediate ACT therapists; and it designed to empower clinical work with ACT methods braodly conceived even if there is no interest in "becoming an ACT therapist." Why try such a thing? Well, with the rise of popularity of acceptance and mindfulness methods and ACT, agencies, Universities, and others are in this situation: some adopters are applying these methods with good results and then they want their colleagues or co-workers to learn about them. They encourage people to come to workshops like this so the audience contains some people who know next to nothing about ACT, some people who have read a little and not yet tried it, people who've read alot and are a beginning to apply it, and people who have been doing ACT for a while with lots of clients. Yipes!

What I do is this workshop is to simplify the model and teach it in a way that will empower people to start right away in applying both the model and some of its methods, but without having to throw over what they are already doing. No one has to get the ACT tatoo to benefit. It includes some experiential work so people can a deeper personal sense of the applicability of these methods. Then I walk through very practical problems that both beginners and more experienced people have in applying these methods. We look at tapes and try to see psychological flexibility processes in flight. We practice how to move in on the issues you see. A very experienced person will find many things that are useful and yet it is designed so that no prior knowledge is assumed.

The feedback I've gotten on this structure is pretty good. It get high ratings both for practicality and theoretical interest; both for beginners and more experienced people.

The link to the seminar registration is below, of just go to www.iahb.com and click on my name and download the pdf.

By the way, the Institute for the Advancement of Human Behavior is a non-profit educational outfit that has been around for many years. I like and respect these folks -- not too commercial etc. If you have a group (e.g., you want to bring a bunch of students; or a whole agency) talk to them about what they can do. They are human sized and can deal with requests like that.

In addition to the October 20-21 dates I'm doing this workshop September 29-30 in DC, and December 1-2 in Baltimore
