The Portland Psychotherapy Clinic, Research, & Training Center is offering a clinical/research fellowship in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) that will begin in the summer of 2012. This is a unique two-year postdoctoral fellowship with possible transition to a permanent position. The fellowship is intended to be about 40% research/60% clinical.

Portland Psychotherapy is a clinic, research, and training center with four psychologists, soon-to-be two postdoctoral residents, administrative staff, and one contractor. The center is lead by Dr. Luoma, an established researcher, writer, and trainer of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with contacts at local and national research centers. Specialty training in addictions, mood disorders, trauma, eating disorders, and personality disorders can be provided. The fellow also has the opportunity to participate in and co-lead ACT courses/groups and receive supervision in Functional Analytic Psychotherapy.

The ideal candidate will have clinical training in ACT, behavior therapy, or other third wave approaches, an interest in maintaining a research career, and have demonstrated potential in both areas. The fellow will participate in research on shame and/or stigma and the development of interventions for increased self-compassion. We are particularly interested in candidates with research background in stigma, shame, self-compassion, addiction, or measurement of mindfulness-processes.

The fellow will receive two hours per week of expert supervision, which is sufficient for licensure in Oregon. She/he has the opportunity to participate in writing competitive grant proposals and will analyze research data, write papers, and have the opportunity to collect pilot data on an original research project. The fellow can also have the opportunity to learn about the use of remote collaboration/videoconferencing technologies in marketing, training, and/or research.

Portland is a fantastic city that is often ranked as one of the most livable cities in America. We have a vibrant and growing community of ACT clinicians and researchers here.

Minimum requirements: Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. ABD is acceptable. Demonstrated interest in and experience with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and/or other behavior therapies. Demonstrated commitment to research (e.g., at least one peer reviewed empirical publication). Research background in shame, stigma, ACT, self-compassion, or mindfulness desired. Minority candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Stipend for the position is competitive and based partially on income from clients seen in the clinic (and increases in year two). Deadline for applications: January 22, 2012.

Email curriculum vitae, a brief statement about why you are interested in this position, and have three letters of reference emailed directly to: Jason Luoma, Ph.D., Director, Portland Psychotherapy, Portland, OR. E-mail: jbluoma@gmail.com.
