becoming an ACT therapist

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

I am a bit confused with regard to what the minimum level of qualifications/training is to become an ACT therapist. A colleague who has a lot of clinical experience in mental health, vocational rehab, etc. etc., teaching certificates, counselling skills, a diploma in training and education in supported employment - although no psychology degree unfortunately - is wondering how she could go on about becoming an ACT therapist.

Is there a basic CBT benchmark criteria as a prerequisite to become an ACT therapist or could she just go to some of the training organised on the ACBS website?

I know there isn't a formal ACT qualification but I am not sure whether there is a pre-requisite qualification for it or whether there is a way of finding out how much her current qualifications and experience would contribute to this?

Any comments would be most welcome

Thanks

Alessio

Thre is no minimum level.

There is no minimum level of training that I know about. ACT is very kind and client-centered and lends itself to starting with just a bit of knowledge and then expanding as you get the feel for it.

I hope this helps.
