  • ACT Background and Training

Numerous ACT trainings (Hayes, Walser, Forsyth, Dahl, etc.). I started by reading the 1999 ACT book, the RFT book, and many others. Then I started using ACT, especially in groups. We would do a group, then immediately talk about the results of the group, and then redesign. We kept that up and now we have done well over 1000 groups using a succession of ACT protocols we (Jerold Hambright) and I developed. Along the way we have had many clinical visitors, including Mark Webster. With Mark we arrived at "The Matrix," which is simple, clear, and concise way of increasing the probability of psychological flexibility.

I have had the pleasure of being invited around the country, and even Europe, to present about ACT.

I train an easy-to-learn form of ACT through live presentations, webinars and individual consultations. I post a lot of information on my private website: http://www.drkevinpolk.com

  • Additional Information

ACT is about using words to point at an experience. Let's say you learned how to roll along on a frame with two wheels, a seat, handlebars and peddles. After you could do that I come along and say, "Oh, that thing you are doing is called Riding a Bike." And you might say, "Oh, those are nice words to describe that experience.

So demonstrate the experience first, then put words on it.
